  • Sunday afternoon

Had a few hours fishing 1/2 a mile or so off ST Marys lighthouse, just drifting about,Colin picked me up from the Kittiwake pub at 1pm had a little bit of breakfast well a pint or two,got down to the boathouse on W Bay beach, nice day not to much wind, looking good, its a pain in the bum launching the boat, but we did it. Headed to our usual spot just north of the lighthouse, and about 1/2-3/4 of a mile out Col was into the fish 3 of them even before I had wet my line, and caught about 10-15 before my first one(how does he do it)he must have caught about 25-30 cod to my 3. most of them went back... I got 3 all around the 3 to 4 lb mark, good pan size, Col got/kept 5 cod again 3-4 lb mark and only 2 mackerel.. we need to load up on them for winter, but cant catch them for some reason, chugged back in via the lobster pot, empty as usual . Thers loads of pots off Whitley beach so Im not surprised. got back to the Boathouse 3.30 - again a massive pain getting the boat in ,over the sand, very soft sand and up the ramp, still we did it with a helping hand from Tommy & his mate ( thanks lads ) retired to the local for a few well earned pints. A canny day out had by all and a nice tea to go with it...

Your right there about launching, much better at high tide. I've caught most of my mackerel about 400yds on the east side of the yellow bouy. You got some nice fish though when a few boats were scratching around for a sizer, well done.
