Had a run out off Amble again today , with the last two trips out being poor I was worried I'd lost my way with finding the fish , first wreck (yes I'm still addicted to them ) I arrived at the same time as one of the charter boats , I just sat and watched while 12 or so lads caught nowt but mackerel , so I dropped a mackerel rig over and caught a few myself before leaving for the next wreck. The charter boat set off in a different direction and the wreck I went to had fish on it
I dropped a shad over the side and let it hit bottom , slowly winding up 4 ,5 , 6, turns of the reel and bang , a nice cod of maybe 5lb , a few more drifts produced a few more fish including yet another 9lb 15oz cod , I'm saying it was 9.15 , my scales are digital and go up and down with the swell until they find an average but this was taking too long for my liking and registering anywhere between 9.12 and 10. 8 , so I'll settle for just under a double. Tried a pirk for a few drifts , it produced fish , but they were smaller than the shad was taking and the shad is much more fun to fish , so it the pirk soon went back in the box.
Even though there were still fish on this wreck I decided to have a look on another a bit further south , all the way there I could see a boat in the distance and expected it to be fishing the wreck I was heading for , fortunately it was fishing one about a half mile further on and the one I stopped at had fish on it
First drop down with my fred flintstone shad produced another cod about the same size as the "9.15" , I didn't weigh it. Decided to see if there were any ling about and dropped a mackerel baited hook down , I took 4 ling in 4 drops all about 6lb and packed in fishing for them , I'll keep trying a drop every now and then for them till the big girls arrive and have a proper go for them then.
The sea was picking up a bit by now with a bit of an easterly so I headed nearer home and eventually back in .
Really enjoyed my day
