Well first day back after about 11 days of no fishing with being away but back with a bang or rather cod nob.
Met the normal crew (Jason and Graham) at the Royal Quays and set oof about 6.20am, i had a plan of few wrecks to fish today but a couple we did well on a while back but not fished well since so off we went.
Long long steam off and the first drop was for mackerel, hit about 20 so that was the boat sorted and with then it was time to set the drift and fish the 1st well second wreck as a boat (naughty boys) fishing on my first choice.
Crew getting bait ready
So after 3 drifts we had nothing but 1 small codling so off we went again and on the second wreck..aka the banker at 9.15am...was there any doubt it was a banker and we hit fish from 9.15 until 11ish with all 3 of us taken a stamp of ling 4lb-7lb and the odd cod.
When the drift picked up i dropped down the pirk and hit into a fish that made Jason fall off his perch as i had the dragged locked up and it pulled me half over board after a cracking fight up came a 13lb 10oz cod..nice for a comp day.
Plugged away taken alot of ling and 1 more cod around the 8lb+ mark and then Jason managed a slightly bigger one at 9lb 6oz.
Graham started hitting after a slow period and was quickly into ling with the best around 7lb 8oz. Time was kicking on and a 2hr steam back so we headed for home with 1 last wreck to hit...Jason managed the only fish off this wreck a nice and rare Haddock just shy of 2lb i would say.
So Stingrays catch was about 40 ling upto 7lb 8oz and 6 cod upto 13lb 10oz along with Haddock, coalie, whiting and mackerel.
My catch
11 ling best 7lb
3 cod best 13lb+
3 coalie
2 whiting
mackerel
Ow and the comp well in the under 20ft class I managed 1st, Jason got 2nd and Graham came in 4th so prize and money again was nice after such a good day at sea.
