An 0330am early start was called for due to the forecast, no wind and a sea like glass!
Well the start was a little delayed as Micky forgot the boat keys and had to head back home to get them. It was off with the three of us again today, myself, Micky and Darren.
The sunrise was pretty spectacular and the forecast was spot on, it was just a shame today that the weather was amazing but the fishing wasn't!

We tried over 7 wrecks and didn't find a single one switched on. We picked away all morning with odd fish here and there and at the end of the session ended up quite respectable but no flurries of fish today. Saying that we had two treble hook ups and the biggest fish going to Micky, a pollock of around 8lb, he got it on a trace with the pollock on the bottom hook, a cod on the middle and a mackeral on the top so we mustn't grumble! I think with the previous sessions being so good we are being spoiled! It was difficult to get down through the mackeral today at times and the big tide didn't help with a fast drift either. Biggest hook up fell to me, a huge seal that took a fancy to my sidewinder! He took off and broke the surface like a missile!
I think the next trip off will be weather dependant, it doesn't look good for this week!

Nice report Graham, absolutly "Stunning" sunrise picture ..... I think we should maybe turn this into a photography site

A shame the fish didn't show but it has to be that way, I`m sure it just keeps you on the edge knowing theres good days and bad and it sure stops complacency setting in ......

Great post Graham , I keep my boat keys on my car keys otherwise I'd be doing a Micky on a regular basis , I'm hopeless at remembering things.
I'm hopeless at photography as well , so I think we'll keep it as a fishing site Norman ,
My boat is coming out the water for an engine service and a clean tomorrow , I'm suprised the forcasts aren't showing gentle westerlies and blazing sunshine
She'll be back in for when the weather turns fishable again though
I take it you played the seal all wrong and lost it Graham ?

Fishing's like that Graham, but still you caught fish - we just have to remind ourselves its better than sitting on the beach freezing and catching nowt in the winter. You weren't fishing the sidewinder at the north of the island by any chance were you! We had a try for mackerel last night when the wind dropped and struggled to get twenty - plenty of small coalies and cod.

Nice report mate and with all these sunrise and sea picks we are all posting we should have enough to make a calender. I know I would buy one.

We were on a wreck 9 miles off in 60+ metres of water Colin when the seal took! Hell of a fight before he parted my braid!
Saying that the last one that pinched a fish off me was at the North end of the island.
I think today was a reality check but even looking back I would have been chuffed last season with the fish we had today! We are still on a steep learning curve but enjoying it. It is even getting technical with knowing which wreck will give you the best and longest drift depending on the tide and all that hokus pokus stuff!
Micky was ringing me to see if I had my keys which I did have but I went up on my motorbike as the gaffa needed the car so I didn't hear the phone ringing Ray. I have done it once before drove from Newcastle to Amble to get to the boat and realise no keys or marina card! Doh!
