It Just gets better!!!!!!!
Well we headed off today fully crewed up with Myself, Micky and Darren. It was a great sight to see so many boats and participants heading out but a bit strange as due to the ungodly hours we start we are normally alone!
First off it was some fresh mackeral for bait and once the box was filled it was down to business at starting time over the first wreck. The first two we fished produced a few fish on the flood tide but nothing spectacular that we were after.
Wreck three was also a bit of the same, nothing special. We headed off for our fourth choice and saw the Warlord in the vicinity and another boat on one of the other wrecks so it was plan B! We had just passed a wreck we hadn't fished before so deceided to divert back to it to give it a try as the alternative was a 8 mile steam to some others we had fished last week.
First drift over the wreck and it was a treble hook up and that was how it continued!
Fish after fish and getting steadily bigger! darren took the early lead with another low double figuire cod, the second one in two trips! Must be the skipper!!!!!
Next up Micky took the lead, we had another treble hook up, I had one about 9lb and Darrens wasn't as big so he was about to net mine when Micky's pig rolled on the surface! I ended up lifting mine in when Darren netted Mickey's UK PB of just over 13lb.
He thought he had us beat but next drift I baited up with a whole fillet of mackeral on a pennel rig and just in front of the Wreck my gear hit bottom then the rod nearly got pulled out of my hand, it resulted in this;
A PB pollack for me! Chuffed doesn't come close! Three double fuguire fish on the boat in a few minutes! Absolutely great! We weighed my pollack before Micky dropped the scales over the side and she went over 13lb. Back at the weigh in a few hours later she went 11lb 13 3/4. Enough to win the comp!
Micky ended up joint second with Adam Dunn with his Cod and I think Darren was around 5th or 6th. The rest of the day was a bit of a blur and I eased off fishing as I was so chuffed with the fish I had caught. We had ling to 9lb and a fair few more cod and pollack before the wind picked up and gave us a salt water blasting on the way back in. We had a sneaky go for the heaviset flatty prize late on but Micky was the only one to catch one and it was well beaten at the weigh in! The fishing went well downhill once the tide turned allthough we were still picking away.
All in all a great day and some money raised for great causes. Bob was a great bloke, I used to work in his and Sue's tackle shop when I was a kid a fair few years ago!
I hate to repeat myself but how good is the fishing this year! Three weeks left of holiday befor ework time, have to get some cramming in!
