Out this morning with Tony (Steve - its time to change your employment , it's getting in the way of your fishing )
Met at marina at 4.00am (a modest starting time ) with a bit blow from the south as forcast but since its been South to SW for a few days we were not too worried about sea state.
Nice run up to piers wth river flooding calmly and a high tide due at 8.15am ... surprisingly quiet !, as we had anticipated a few others on an early call with all the good reports recently.

First port of call was a close in spot that has been ... well .... "ballistic" ..... for a few weeks, but unfortunately nothing but mackerel, and scothies today (maybe later when the tide gets to a more preferrable position)

As ever the sun rose with breathtaking views, whatever cloud there was soon burnt off to leave a clear sky and flat sea ......... wow o wow

We`ve spent the beginning of the season on close in rough ground (as I expect most have done the same) but today we decided to do the circuit, the wreck circuit, the idea was to target bigger fish and if the baits tony was preparing were anything to go by we were gonna be into some biggies (see his post on his latest lures whoa, need more deck space for some of them)

Off we went to 5 mile marks and fish were a plenty, cod , ling, scotchie, mackerel, coalie, and whiting. It seemed that every wreck held fish and they were all a step bigger than the ground fish we've had recently, although not quite as prevalent ......

between 4.00am and 7.00am fish came aboard, all biggies (whoo hoo) we had several 7lbd , 8lbd and a best of 9lbd but as the tide hit top at 8.30 ish it went quiet ....
the wind dropped the current dropped and the sun shone (it was hard to stay awake ).
Over the VHF were talks of hard times and few fish (am I glad we came out early )
we spent the next hour with nothing but whiting and scotchies till the "special wind" as Tony called it came up with the flow of the tide at about 10.00am and suddenly it was cod ling cod once again ....

decided to call it a day at about 11.00am with a box or two of fish , a happy heart and a very tired body (them 9lbdrs sure wear you out ... )

All in all a great days fishing with the average fish being about 7lbd ........ not a bad stamp by any accounts ...

    roll on next week

    pictures of the day ..........

sunrise........ just cos we were there ....

    tonys first ling ......

    and his second ......

    My 9lbd cod

and just to show tony catches cod as well .....

oh and one last one ............ do you think I`m working the cabin boy too hard ????

    thanks all for reading ....

    cheers

Getting a bit repetitive this Norman ( although long may it continue )

Great report and a nice catch. As for the lazy cabin boy I would splice his mainbrace or whatever for lying down on the job.

I ve never understood why it goes quiet when the tide is slack.

Well done on the fishing guys.

                  Mick.

Had my own day of two halfs today...fishing in the AM and the SBRAAC presentation night/BBQ/Karaoke-discotheque in the PM

If you've never seen a 16 stone bald bloke singing Stayin Alive by the Bee Gees (in falsetto ) you've never lived

Great mornings fishing Norman - hard graft as usual but always nice to pull in a few fish...desperado to beat my PB this season hence the big baits

No I didn't try the monster shad today - couldn't bring myself to do it...on a plus note we lost very little tackle today - I think I'd even managed to use the same sinker (swaaping it with different rigs) for 7 hours before finally losing it

I poached Keiths patented "Frasers Wrap" with mixed results which included a VERY hungry scotchie that fancied a whole squid, half mackerel on a 10/0

am away for a week now to recover so see you soon - cheers as ever
                      Ooh a new vid!

I reckon you're right Norman , I certainly do need to change my job ( God do I miss the fishing and of course the craic ). Apparently I'll be fishing for squid and flathead in a few weeks ( both new for me ) .
I sincerely hope to get out soon mate , work, work, work then weather ,weather etc. have kept me away so far .

Oh and nice pics by the way ,those fishy photos just make me green with envy mate .
You can take the lad out of Walker but .......
