Took a half day off work and headed out from Amble just as the tide was rising , a northerly wind made it a little uncomfortable for a while but it gradually died off and ended up beautifully flat without so much as a breeze.
It was always going to be difficult to compete with the last couple of outings , and even though the bag was smaller and the biggest fish were "only" 5 or 6lb ( I'd have been jumping with joy last year with them ) I really enjoyed my afternoon out , I caught quite a few on the pirk again before fancying doing something different and continued catching them on shads , great fun.
Moved to a wreck I've not fished before and found it lifting with pollock , not massive ones , maybe 3lbs or so , but what a fight you get from them , they all went back alive .
Never seen a mackerel today , didn't look for them , but they usually turn up uninvited anyway , and only had one coaly and one ling.
I wish I could bottle the feeling I get when I'm catching fish , I'd put the cocaine dealers out of business in an istant
