  • Growler 18/06/10 Northerlies!!!!!

Well it was a silly o clock start with the forecast for the day to deteriorate around lunchtime so me and Micky set off and were out of the piers at 0330 before the sun rose.

Nudging out past Coquet Island and it wasn't too bad and with the fishing being so good previously we deceided to give it a go. Just before we reached the first wreck the VHF aerial snapped and went flying overboard! We were almost on the wreck so dropped down. First drift in front of the wreck I got a double shot of whiting whilst Micky missed the whiting and was straight into cod. The next few drifts produced some good sized cod and ling but the weather was getting worse by the minute. We had four last drifts and on our last, last drift we didn't make the wreck as a shoal of jumbo mackeral were there and we couldn't get through them. First ones of the season.

Once we had enough for tea it we deceided it was back in. On the way in the weather moderated slightly so we tried another two wrecks on the way in before calling it a day. The weather was poor by nine o clock an we were both pleased to be in the piers, soaking wet!
Whilst cleaning down the bigger boat conversation started again with pro's and cons! An enclosed wheelhouse would certainly have been a help today! I was soaked to the skin. We still had a good morning, the biggest cod was over 7lb and ling 8lb, both to Micky! Just tiddlers for me!

With the forecast for the next few days I am pleased I am on a dynamic positioning course as there will be no fishing except from the shore! Micky is off to Norway for a week fishing on the Havsel, jammy bugger!
    Tight Lines,

Nice one just got out in time by the looks of it it. Had nothing to talk about yesterday inshore tried all our. I'll have to try these wrecks you head out to. Got a few markd on my plotter but only ventured out to one about 5 mile east which didnt produce much and never saw anything on the finder. Think my next trip might make the effort weather permiting..... if there right on me plotter......

Ive got an old whip ariel I took of this boat as I got one with the new ariel. had to cut the flex on it so don't know if it can be re connected. you can have it if you want.....

We were out today at Craster and it was like being on a roller coaster. I threw up most of the day despite taken Stugeron which usually are a 100%.
It was the diesel fumes which threw me.

Thanks for the offer of the aerial George but we bought a new one on the way home at Lynchy's. we were going to have a look at an Orkney pilothouse but he doesn't get another one until next month!
Mick I have found the best cure for sea-sickness is sitting under a tree! I battled with it for years and finally don't suffer anymore, I tried everything, seabands, all the pills and patches. Were you far off at Craster? A great catch considering the lack of ground action around Alnmouth, Hadston and Creswell with the coloured water. The lads fishing inshore had really struggled last week.
