  • 06/06 Catch Report (my boat has no name yet!)

My first catch report, due to it being the only one worth reporting on!

Went out today at around 9:30am, leaving from Seaton Sluice. Wind reports were totally incorrect and alot of others decided not to go out, but we were determined as there were still a few people going out!

Steamed out towards St Mary's but decided not to go out as far as the yellow can in case the conditions worsened. First drop with some 'Mackmaster' green feathers and *bang*, hauled up a big mackerel. Then another, then another, then they were coming up in 2's, 3's, 4's... a bit of a mad 10 minutes but then went quiet as we drifted into shallow water. Stayed for another 5 minutes then *bam*, big hit on one of the new light rods with silver daylights on & it bent right over hauling it in. Pulled it in and here was a 3-4lb cod, 2 big mackerel & a small coalie! Nice one! Interestingly enough, the cod went for a bare hook!

Steamed back out into deeper water again and got into a couple more mackerel and loads of small coalies, sand eels & a couple of small codling, but then the sea started to get a bit uncomfortable so we called it a day. We got absolutely soaked coming back in, but made it in safely.

In total we got 21 mackerel, all keepers and some of them really big, a few cod, 1 keeper, numerous sand eels and undersize coalies. A good result off just ~1 1/2 hours out. All caught on various unbaited daylights/feathers & Hokkais.

Looking forward to the next trip out, hopefully the weather & sea will be nicer!

Fabulous report and well done with the catch. A friend of mine use to be moored in the Sluice harbour many years ago, and he used to get frustrated with the sea conditions at times. You say you havn't got a name for your boat yet, I would get one on quickly, as if anything went wrong at sea, craft identification can certainly make any rescue quicker Arthur
