  • Spring / Early Summer Round Up - Mistress - Whitby

I keep trying to find time to get on the forums to get a round up out there, so with a day offand a spare hour, i can get one sorted for you all. I am getting my Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mistr...64094893705227
updated daily with catch reports and photos and any other relevant boat news that comes up.

Well, what can I say about the fishing so far this year, it has been nothing short of outstanding i have literally lost count of the days we have seen over 100 cod onboard, the best couple of days have seen us boat the best part of 200 fish, absolutely the best fishing I have seen since I started full time in 2012. I have loads of pictures in my April / May files so I’ll post a few better ones,

It seems a lot of fish, but attitudes have changed a lot in the last few years, and its great to see my anglers returning a lot of fish and keeping just a few for themselves for the pot, no one likes seeing pictures of boxes and boxes of dead fish, plus it keeps the anti-protesters off our backs!

The average stamp of fish has been 3lb – 6lb, with a few better ones chucked in,

The mackerel have recently made a welcome appearance with us getting a few strings full the other day for the lads that targeted them.

Prospects are certainly looking good for the following months as the water begins to clear and the feed / mackerel gather in larger numbers, we have a few sharking trips booked this year, which are really looking forward to, in a hope we’ll beat the estimated 280lb, 7ft brute we caught last year!

Other news we have recently added a Maxsea Time Zero 3D plotter to the Mistress, its an absolutely brilliant bit of kit its marks out all those fishy hotspots in 3D and parks all those nooks and crannies that you might miss with a standard fish finder. We’ll certainly be putting it through its paces and hopefully it will really come in to its own once we start Uptiding in October.

After reading this report, if you fancy a trip with me on Mistress here at Whitby, give me a call on 074977 436903 / e-mail: seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk or drop me a message on my facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mistr...64094893705227

Excellent pics Rich... those plotter pics are unreal
But it all comes down to interpretation .... I.E. knowing where the fish live and what their habits are..... but if you have a good idea of their habitat it's got to improve the catch rate. does it put all the locations in memory ?
Could it pick out a likely conger spot? We don't really target them do we? why not??

Hi peter, those marks were inside the bell bouy, on th erock top, i already know a fair bit about that spot and this new plotter will help me locate new spots and see clearly how the ledges run when anchoring.

also any cracks in the scar will be spotted easily hopefully pointing us in the direction of a few better fish laying just out of the tide.

As for conger there are loads of explanations why we dont see them, mainly due to the water being too cold, the best time to target them would be right at the back end september/ october when the water is warm.

Ive anchored lots of wrecks at different times of year we just never seem to get them
