  • Upholder Amble 27 May

Out with Dave Builth on Upholder to fish the rough ground marks. 5 on board so loads of space for each angler. Everyone into fish from the off and they were all good, clean fish, around the 4lb mark, the biggest just over 7lb. At the end of the day there were 40 fish kept and over 120 put back for another day. I only kept 1 fish as I still have a freezer full from my previous trip and I saw no need to keep anymore, I returned another 26 fish including a Ling of about 5lb. Fish were caught on Hokkai`s, shad, daylites with no one method being best, I caught all my fish on my favourite orange twintail.
Another super day out on Upholder with Dave putting us on the fish once again.

Nice too hear that some anglers are putting fish back, what would you say is a good number to keep. Coz you carnt eat all of what you catch when there's fish galore. I fished amble last Sunday had a good days fishing and returned well more than I caught.

I only kept one fish on this trip because the previous time I was out I kept 12, 3 of them were used in a fishermans pie and 1 was given to an elderly neighbour so the freezer is well stocked at the moment. I generally like to keep about 10 - 12 fillets in the freezer and will only take 2 or 3 fish on following trips, although if any family members ask me to bring some home for them I will. I am more than happy to return fish to fight another day as I enjoy my fishing for the sport rather than the need to fill bin bags full of fish that will just sit in the freezer for years or get slung in the bin. Unless a fish is deep hooked I will usually put them back. This is my own personal attitude to my fishing and I`m sure there are plenty of others who think likewise, just as I`m sure there plenty of fishermen who keep everything they catch whether they need them or not.
