  • Stingray 15.05.10 Rough Ground

Not what the weather man said but still nice to be out. We left the marina at 11am after a slap up full english and cuppa and met with a 20mph nw wind and a choppy sea.

Still on we went and stopped off at a few marks close in with not a single bite between the 3 of us. Headed for the mass of white boats fishing around the can and into fish on 2nd drop but few and far between. Soon after we found out why, a blue coble pulled in his nets that only about 20 yards off the yellow can and we watched them chuck cod after cod into the boat..sad sight

So after 4 hours we headed home with a few for the pot a total of 9 codling best 4lb loads of scotties and 1 haddock about 1lb. Mam and Dad both had fish so it was a canny day, indian on order and watch the FA cup replay now.

Nice one, watched loads of boats heading out down the river, thought it might be a bit busy round the can, you'll have to get up earlier or better still just stay up .

There might be another boat up there next week
    Cheers, Keith.

Launched from the boat club on whitely beach and we were at the can for about 7ish. Forecast not quite correct with strong NW so was a bit lumpy in the yaks, give it a couple of hours with a few codling taken but headed in nearer and fished rough ground behind st marys island where further cod were taken with the best being about 6lb by alaistair who had drove over from carlise to fish so pleased for him. Really good to be out again but shame the wind spoiled it slightly

Sunday day 2 plan still A......very very very very hard going today with not many fish for miles covered.

              Getting ready...

Set out at 9am and hit all the normal close in marks with not a single fish, moved to the can and caught a few standard size codling and the scotties.

Decided to give up after landing a few codling and moved to the wrecks a canny way off, not a great deal on them but the first ling of the new season was landed.

Nice to see them again but wait what was that in the distance....rain and a straight east wind so that made it easy to call it a day after a drop close in.

Canny day but hard work for a few keeps, chatter on the radio stating mackerel about, i tried over a few locations that often hold them but no joy.

Until Wed/Thu/Sat and Sunday if the weather holds

                Nice pics.
It was the same for us yesterday Rich, lots of miles for not a lot of fish.
Hopefully the fishing will pick up a bit over the next couple of weeks when the macky come in numbers.

Unless that big supertrawler sucks them out of the water first lol.

nice one rich - nice to see a few reports of haddocks albeit small ones but have been few and far between recent years.
