The weekend angler has generally the worse luck when it comes to “the rub” – especially in regards to the weather…the whole of the working week is invariably spent watching the world bask in hot sunshine and warm westerlies only for it to then turn in a blink as soon as the klaxon signals end of shift on a Friday afternoon 
This week was no exception in that respect…but there was a small window…you just had to be quick (and early) to catch it!
0500 meet up at RQ sees us beyond the piers at 0530…no fuel up required as decision made very early on by skipper to fish hard ground only today…owing to eye on the weather, tide etc etc…we had a plan and we stuck to it!
What a plan too…we caught that “window” perfectly…target for the boat was fairly moderate and we managed to meet our objectives a little after 0600!!!
The first fish came on board a mere 5 minutes after first drift was set up in fact
Whew – awesome…pressure completely off inside half an hour!
So we picked away at some inshore marks…with yours truly (not Terry) doing his share of the driving!
The rough ground is easy enough but plotting the drift on a mark in uncertain winds and tides is a different kettle of fish altogether…experience can only come with practice though
After a few short hours and with those black clouds that had started over in Blyth getting ever closer we made our way back to the pier ends…not fast enough however as we (as in me) got caught in it at its peak just as I was elbow deep in fish entrails LOL
But we had a box full of fish after our short trip and there were plenty put back to fight another day
As Hannibal says “I love it when a plan comes together” and today certainly epitomised that sentiment – so job done
No GoPro today…forgot to charge it truth be told
