  • Wor Lass 18/4/15 3 : 1 to Aerosmith

Fishing was good today, armed with a bucket of lugworm and just as much optimism. It was also a day to try out the new go-pro copy- results of which were a little variable.

An early start saw me joining the crowds at St Mary’s can by 10:30. Fish came in steadily until lunch

When fishing went quiet I headed in to a favourite ledge that drops from 35 to 50ft of water. The new camera was tied to the line and over the side it went. Results were disappointing as the water was too mucky to see anything on the bottom, I knew that camera had reached the bottom as the lead snagged for a worrying few seconds. I’ll put a video together of that and the rest of the day if anyone’ interested.
Back to the Can for a final mega-drift at 1.3 knots all the way to Cullercoats. Jacket off and radio on the fish came in patches with three landed while Aerosmith were playing but only one or none for other artists. There’s a top tip for next time fish prefer Aerosmith. When bites went quiet, topping the hooks up with fresh lug soon regained interest.
By 4 o’clock I’d had about 20 fish, all returned and most about 1 ½ pounds, the best of the day barely reaching 3lb. They were the typical spring scrappers on light gear, some with speckled colours that I’ve not seen in the winter fish. All-in-all a good day out and encouraging signs that the spring run has started.

A speckled spring scrapper, but the photo doesn’t do it justice.

Always interested in the video Kev
Tony's not been brave enough to put camera on a line yet (don't blame him lol ) it's on a solid pole which is further tethered to his person
Must have been a squeaky moment when the lead snagged 😀

Nice one Kevin, the camera takes a nice sharp photo, but dropping it on a line around St. Mary's. I'm sure when the water clears you'll appreciate the results a lot more.
