It’s been a long winter and it felt like the first day of the season would never come…in fact we were going bananas!
Did someone mention bananas…oops! The wife is trying to get me to eat more fruit so she sent me on my way with a banana in my packed lunch LOL
I didn’t know bananas were bad luck!!!
Banana Folklore
So after a minor crisis averted at the rather casual meet up of 0630 we went about our business.
Todays trip was all about system checks – aside from running the engine over at the birth Slinky Kate hasn’t been used in anger for nigh on 6 months.
Fish wise anticipation was fairly low…there’ve been some good reports, some bad reports and some average…our target was maybe to get the first of the season over the side and anything above that was just good karma
So off we went up the river. It was already a clear blue sky day and it wasn’t long before the sunnys came out.
Taking a left at the piers we went straight to the hard ground…once we were there Mother nature was keen to remind us that we are still very much in Spring not summer - gloves, hats and thermals all required.
To be honest we didn’t stop around inshore too long…the forecast for both sea and wind was way beyond our expectations and was proving to be actually better than expected – it would have been rude not to try the wrecks wouldn’t it??
So we found ourselves doing the rounds of what are usually the summer marks – and you know what? We found fish!
This was good news on many fronts not least because of the new toys that had been purchased pre-season
The GoPro (and associated “selfie stick”) are looking to become a firm Slinky feature this season….in fact if you do happen to share a wreck with us please do not be alarmed if one of us reaches for the pole…it’s all quite harmless!
The fish weren’t there in huge numbers but there were enough to keep our interests up and new toy occupied
All in all a great day:
Weather = great
Conditions = great
Craic = great
Slinky is being lifted out next weekend to have her bottom cleaned and painted but she performed perfectly on all levels today – long may she reign!
Few pics:
Oh and this is Norman doing donuts at the end of the trip – looks better on the vid
There will be a video…early trials of the new toy are promising…maybe tomorrow
Cheers as ever Norman – great great start to the season
Until next time
Cheers
Tony
