I've recently returned from a trip to Soroya in northern Norway and thought you might like to see some of the fish caught on the trip. Each photograph shows a pb. Before I went I had struggled to catch one in double figures, and that includes two trips to Skarsundet, in Norway.
We fished from a boat for 5 out of the six available days fishing. Having taken two days to get there because of flight and ferry timings the last thing I wanted to hear was that the previous week only achieved six hours fishing out of their 6 days!
As it happened only day 2 was too rough to venture out, although the guide describing the sea as lumpy doesn't do it justice.
The first photo shows my pb going into double figures (about 13 lbs ) not great I know but after so long of trying it was good to break the duck.
Using 40cm Big Bob lures seemed unreal when I was packing them before I left but the size of the fish soon made them seemed small. On day 1 I took my pb to over 30 lbs, Day 4 and 5 saw me land fish of 40 and 50 lbs. Like a story book the last hour of day 6 saw me take my pb to 60lbs.
There is something satisfying about seeing big fish go back, and all the fish I caught were returned, by resting them at 10 metres they released air and adapted their swim bladders.
Once this happened, they could be brought to the surface, released and swimming away without harm.
The attachment limit is 5 photographs but there is couple more in the album Norway 2015.
This was definitely the trip of a lifetime, but I wonder how many lifetimes I can have as the record fish caught in early March was 47 kilos..... and there were 3 over 30 kilos last week.
