  • Nice Cod From The Kayak

We launched into a choppy sea at Newbiggin and a cold Southerly, but it was nice to be out.

The drift was too fast so we decided to anchor.
First drop Chris and I were into fish, mine came up easy.

Chris's rod was bent double with a good fish on fighting against the current, luckily the fish gave up before him it weighed in at just under 7lb.

All in all a canny day a bit cold but a few fish to show for it. I had three fish all under size, Chris had 12 and kept three.

Good to see lads. I was out at the same location yesterday with Mark Day and a different Dave. Although there was a few fish caught with Mark getting the biggest at about 31/2lb, the day did not produce as many as you seem to have caught. As you say in your report, 'Great to be out though'

Hi Jeff, chance would be a fine thing I'm sure. One thing I did learn from my trip up to Newbiggan is the place is ideal for launching even when the sea is up. Unlike the big beach at shields where even a small swell produces wave too big to paddle through. Very enjoyable session even if my fish were just small.
