  • 22lb ling 15lb cod on wildcard today

    I couldn't fish on the boat today so asked the deepseacodmaster to crew for me while Steve skippered the boat. I called Steve after dinner and he said the wreck they were on was 'fishing it's tits off'.

    I went down the marina at 5pm and thought the swiftcat looked low in the water as she berthed. I have never seen so many fish.

    I'll post some pics later.

      Heres a pic of Ade Payne from Pontefract with his 15lb cod and 14lb ling;

      This lad was called Jed from Stockton and he had this 22lb ling as his biggest;

      All fish were taken off the same wreck.

          Jed was telling me he lost a much bigger ling close to the surface and exactly the same thing happened a few weeks ago. Both had the nylon end trace bitten through.

          The problem is though ling spin on the trace and their sharp teeth shred the nylon close to the hook. Neither angler changed the trace from the previous fish and dropped down with a half shredded trace - and paid the consequence.

          It is all too easy to just leave the old one on and drop back down because the fish are there, but you could lose the fish of a lifetime.

              The deepseacodmaster sent me this picture today and it seems to be a different fish from Jeds. Looks a decent fish though.

              I've dropped a blob with the above pic. It was caught by Poogong on the 9-9-09 and not 12-9-09.
