well, it is just the 6th september ..... mid summer as we would believe ......
ok take a look at this first then read on !
still a little rain don`t hurt anyone
Set off at a leisure time of 8.00am (tide low at 11.30am and fairly brisk)
we decided that the tide and wind would be in unison in the morning and in opposition by lunchtime so thought we`d give it a go over bottom and hope to maybe pick up some big ling at slack water ......
Not the case unfortunately, even though there's been a lot of ling recently this wasn`t to be the case today, it was codonly (isn't that someones name?).....
Tried off the piers (seen richie at the north pier) for mackerel and/or launce but all to no avail so , after 10mins or so it was off to the wrecks "mackereless" (in a slightly building sea).
Stopped off at the 3 mile line and eventually struck into some mackerel ... three at a time (ie three of us catching one at a time ) .... mind you they were rather large tigers .....
Then, as cabin boy stand in Keith (tony had other family duties today) and first mate Steve continued to search for bait fish I slipped on a favourite orange muppet and dug into the first cod of the day ... whoooo hoooo
Unfortunately it was not the start of things to come just a blip in our favour. we tried several wrecks and all to no avail until Keith decided to give us a lesson in "the use of the blue shad"
Two great takes from Keith showing us how to "shad"
What followed was miles and miles of travel between wrecks that are known to produce ..... but not today .....
The weather was not good to us with wind and rain alternating and then combining in some instanstances ..........
Still, we learnt a lesson (or were confirmed of the view) ......
This is fishing ... not catching ... today as has been the case in the past, was a good leveller ......... its not always easy
Many thanks to my crew for the day Keith and Steve
Just a couple of pics ... (video will be added to the next trip out)
My first .......
A summer day 2009
Keiths first shad caught fish of the day
Steve showing you need no hooks for mackerel , just lassoo them ....
oh well it keeps you good ......... to know it`s not god given to catch
cheers
Norm
