Well set off at 8.30am with myself and my mam that i had promised a day out and headed out the piers for just before 9, dropped down for the mackerel and caught around 20 in a few mins and then we hit what must have been a shoal of weavers, yes weavers....taken 2 at a time on daylights.
So weavers in mind we turned tail and headed abit further off, stopped off and hit a few more mackerel and my 1st grey gurnard of 2009 (see pic)
We then set about the wrecks, my mam was into the fish 1st taken a ling around 5lb mark, then i was to follow with 2 ling around 5-6lb. The wind had gone the drift was at 0.3 so off i went to a big mother far out, 1st drift nothing, 2nd drift wamm...my mam reeled in her 1st double ling (see 2nd pic) at 11lb 4oz followed by myself with a codling around 6lb and a ling around 4lb.
Back around again and it was 0.0 meaning pick a spot and stop on top, bang again my mam was into fish and again it was a double ling of 10lb 11oz, then it was my turn with a 12lb dead cod and then 1 min later after unhooking the cod and dropping down up came a 10lb 5oz cod (no pics as lashing down at this point)
Had a couple more fish then the rain and time sent us home packing, had a cracking day, only bad point was a snapped rod that went at the joint (old thou)
So total catch report was...
8 ling
3 codling
1 haddock
2 scotties
1 gurnard
2 whiting
20 weavers lol
40ish mackerel.
My mam had 3 ling, a haddock and a mix of the rest (biggest fish also)
I had 4 ling and 3 codling and mix of the rest
Going to work now but well worth being tired for
Ow and all fish returned even the double cod so they still out there
