The skipper is having a chillax this weekend so he’s delegated the catch report down the chain to Cabin Boy/Bait Boy/Fish Counter

Lie in start this week with a 0530 meet up at the RQ...Steve unable to make it this week so Ivan (Iva-cod-on) stepped up once again into the breach.

After lock out and fuel up we were beyond the Piers for a little after 6am – great time to be up and about, particularly when the sun is painting such glorious colours

First port of call was the macky and while they weren’t about in major numbers we bagged a half dozen or so and steamed for the horizon – well at least 3 miles closer to it

First drift on the wreck and I’m in...to a little Ling of about 3lb (no pic)

And then? Well as is often the case (or so it seems recently) the fish gods make you work for your fish supper and then some...the forecast was glorious, the sea state while not mirror flat was positively delightful in relation to recent times and the drift for most of the day was nigh on perfect

So it was a case of “We seek ‘em here, and seek ‘em there”...tried a few more wrecks at the 3 mile range and in that time I added another small 3lbish Ling to the Box...Norman and Ivan were catching fish...just not overly desirable species

Norman did catch one of only 2 Scotchies boated today just to keep Steves side up

So from the 3 miles we hit the 7/8 mile margins and to be frank not a sausage was interested in our baits/pirks/shads/muppets/dashing good looks and humour so the bold decision was taken by the skipper to venture out to the 10 mile+ marks as the conditions were so favourable – deep water

To be honest this raised my hopes slightly – especially when I saw the features on the sounder

Now you have to admit they LOOK darned fishy!!!

    Did we catch owt? Erm...no

Well we tried but after a while all we were catching was the bottom and it’s a proverbial kick in the gonads to bait up and lose a rig in 250ft of water when your window of opportunity on the wreck is so small (sheesh i sound like Richy)

So back we went toward the wrecks we had fished earlier in the morning and on secondary attempt the going hadn’t seemingly got any easier with the drift having picked up a fair old pace in the process...usually a disadvantage some would say...

Not in this case as it turned out to the just the catalyst for things to turn a corner

Well past the wreck with lines almost at 45 degrees to the boat Norman lets out a whoop of joy and after a struggle against the tide he eventually boats this beauty

    A 4lb Pollack!!

    “Round again”

    Ivan is in too!!

So the lads have both bagged up on a pair of nice scrapping Pollack - which is well deserved for their patience throughout the morning

They both pulled in another Pollack each on the same wreck before things went quiet again...so Norman decided it was time to start heading back in...a couple more wrecks on the way back yielded no more until the famous words “We’ll give it one more drift...unless one of us catches something”

Lo and behold we went around again a couple more times but for nought so we finally called it a day at just after 1400

So what looked like it could have been a distinctly below average days catch turned out just nice in the end with 2 Ling, 4 Pollack and a Cod...with roughly about 47.6 mackerel along the way

These little fellas also provided some amusement at the RQ as they decided to “lock in” with two motor cruisers and a yacht!...LOL they were even first through the other side

LOL bit of an epic report but I haven’t written a decent one in a while – hope you enjoyed it.

Cheers as ever Norman and great to fish alongside you Ivan – great craic and banter as ever on Slinky Kate

    Until next time...cheers - Tony

PS – I’m also in charge of this weeks video...I’m under pressure going after Normans recent efforts, I hope I can do it justice

    Here's the vid - enjoy!!!
