Slinky Kate Catch report July 25th 2009 (air show day)

Whilst Tony was sunning himself on Holiday in Bonnie Scotland (no doubt in search of a record “och aye the noo” fish), it fell to new crew member Ivan (Iva-cod-on) to take on responsibilities of cabin boy for the day.

And what a marathon day it was early fishing to catch the tide, air show for a couple of hours then back to the fishing to keep up the averages ………

Out at 4.00am (High Tide at 6.15am) gave us only 2 hours or so on the flood.
Stopped off just out of piers for mackerel but found it hard going (or Steve did, being designated bait man for the day, as Ivan and I watched on)
Still, he didn’t dissapoint and although they only came in 1 at a time they did come in and began to swell the bait boxes.

First Fish came in at about 5.00am with the first box full by about 8.30am.
Pleased to see that newest Team Slinky member Ivan was into Cod and Ling fairly early (to be verified by video to follow)

Moved around wreck to wreck with two or three drifts on each but found that in general we picked up only one fish per wreck … until we got to what turned out to be the “Wreck of the Day” when on the first drift all three of us were reeling in fish together, then on the second drift again all three of us struck together (only to loose a couple on the way up). This was the pace for this particular wreck it certainly gave fruit ……… THEN Steve started moaning …., well not moaning really just puffing and panting as he tried to reel in what looked like a good fish. WOW, it certainly was with a Ling to 13 ½ lbs a personal best and first double figure fish to Steve … Well done mate !.

At this point you’d think we were in for an extreme bumper day but , although we’d filled more than one box and were happy with our catch this was to be the last but one decent fish of the day, What followed for the next several hours was Whiting and Scotchie in numbers all returned (along with numerous Ling deemed too small to take)

Time was moving on we were 7 mile out from sunderland with the airshow about to start so we headed in to see the opening by the Red Arrows and a couple of other “acts” following.

For a little snippet see here ... http://www.nesa.co.uk/forums/boat-fishing/28124-airshow-snippet.html

Time then to return to the tyne and get a couple of hours on the new flood tide as we’d completed the ebb , as it happened only one more keepable fish with a number of aliens returned so we decided to call it a day about 3.30pm

Take home catch I believe was 4 Ling and 7 cod which made up a nice bag of fillets each.

Stats on the day :- Steve got most fish, Steve got biggest fish ! – well done again Steve on the double.

Great to see a new face, well done Ivan cheers great day.

Just a few pictures until I manage to put together a video

Nice1 and well done Steve on your double at last, put the work in for it and it came

I felt it would be hard going today ont he wrecks with the sea and the 5.3 tide but they seemed to still fish.

It was mental in the lock, hope it was abit better when you lot got in.
