Out of bed at 3.30 this morning and leaving the marina lock gates by 5.00 am.

The sea was nice and flat so we thought we'd have a good run about, furthest we went today was a couple of wrecks at 17-18 mile off.

We put some miles in trying a load of wrecks but only managed the odd one or two from the wrecks further out and finally had a good spell on a wreck about 8 mile out when the tide had started to run again after low water.

We ended up with about 15- 20 codling between us mainly around the 4-5 lb mark. Kept 8 for the pot and put the rest back.

Spotted a whale on the way to a mark, about 100ft in front of us, so we stopped off to watch it for a while and it surfaced another few times for us, which was a bonus to the day.

Their was a fair few trawlers out threre today and on two different wrecks a trawler came right down the side of the wreck with his nets down, so we moved on.

    A lonely coley.

Only had my phone camera so did'nt even bother to try and take a pic of the whale with it, think it was probably a pilot whale but Im no expert, was about 20 ft long at a guess.

Nice one ! What do you reckon to the wrecks with no fish on them at slack water though? Are the fish there but we are at the wreck at the wrong time to catch them ?, or are there simply no fish on them?

I recon different wrecks fish best at different states of the tide. Sometimes the fish seem to stop feeding at slack water, but not always as we've had fish at this time occasionally.

Some people put big ling baits on over slack water to try and temp a bigun from the wreck or rough.

If you knew what state of tide each wreck fished best you'd be off to a good start, give me a bell if you suss it out lol.
