If you count attempting to catch a fish as "Fishing" then I suppose we call todays run out "Extreme Fishing"

Usual crew today of Tony, Steve and myself.
Due to the not particularily good forecast we decided to drop the early start and aim for the rather more "girlie" start of 10.00am, this would enable us to at least make a judgement on the weather before spending a fortune on bait that may well get wasted.

Turned out the weather was much as forcasted, a steady south south westerly. Since it`s been in the west for a few days the sea was fairly flat ... when I say flat I mean not big rollers ......

After all of 3 seconds discussion we took the decision to give it a go, so, Steve and I readied and fuelled up Slinky while Tony set off to Billys for the ragworm......

The river was a bit choppy on the way out but nothing too bad, on exit out of the Tyne the sea looked as we had anticipated, flattish but choppy ...... with an ever growing wind ....

We tried several spots but the drift was ferrocious with only scotchies making an appearance (but unusually not to Steve), there was a moment when we thought Steve had hooked his regular quota of scotchies but on arrival at the surface turned out to be a 4 inch long tommy codling (why are the all named tommy?).
After an hour or so of close in attempts (all to no avail) we decided on a short trip to a wreck.
Was a bit lumpy on the way out (with the wind behind us) but oh dear, when we stopped the gales were blowing in our face and it was evident that this was not the place to be .........

A hasty trip back close in followed (similar to the rides you pay for on the town moor)

Even an expedition to our favourite haunt St Marys produced only the one codling.

It was evident by 1.00pm ish that it was time to call this an Extreme Boating Day, but not a fantastic fishing day .... still, I do enjoy the boating factor as well as the fishing and boy was today exciting .....

well, at least It keeps you honest ......

Just a couple of pics today as we kept waiting for the fish to arrive before taking any.

Oh and a hastily put together video just to try and explain what I mean as exciting ........

Steve staving off the wind .....

and an empty deck ..... we`re all in the cabin

and the (although rather short) "Extreme Fishing / Boating" vid

    Better Luck Next Week ...................

As you say, better luck next week Norman, it didn't look too bad when you came over to give us a wave and looked flat calm as we drove down the coast at 7am.

We are having a well earned "fix" on The Boys in the morning, fingers crossed the weather improves.

            ps

Keep the videos coming, great to watch, you'll be investing in that underwater camera next
            Cheers, Keith.

It's amazing how different the sea looks from land to actually being out on it , I had a look down to Amble today just to see what this wind was doing to the sea, it was flat o.k. , but proper choppy , didn't look too dangerous to be out in , but didn't look like it would be fun fishing in either. Tony or Steve mentioned fishing on hands and knees in another post , that sort of day lol.
I'm guessing the fish will still be there , just damn hard to present a bait to in these conditions?
I'm going to have a run out tomorrow , should be easier conditions I hope

Great report again , even without the fish , I might take a camera tomorrow , whether the pics ever make it onto here is another story though lol.

Took the Tom Jones out today (was the taja but wife insisted on a name change) kids now apprecate how amusing a lumpy sea can be. Seriously though learnt that the Predaor has great see keeping qualities when on the plane but is a bit of a nightmare when sitting low in the water...we live and learn!!

Yes what a great day again , not great fish wise but a from a fun point of view it was priceless ..

Bob ,Norman does always mention the trip back from Amble when it's a tad snotty ,I'm glad I wasn't part of that to be honest , we also remember the way I was on the first couple of trips in the rough stuff ,never been sick but I was a tad nervous to say the least ..... funny that I don't bat an eyelid these days .

I got some canny footage myself but as I'm completely worn out from trying to keep my feet I may leave it for later .

So as mentioned at least we gave it a go ,well done to Norman as ever who kept us safe and tried his best as ever to find the fish.

Next time .......oh yes next time
You can take the lad out of Walker but .......
