  • Wave Dancer out of Amble

Hi all, as I am fairly new to having my own boat I was really looking forward to getting out yesterday without freezing my bits off and had prepared well with my two friends in terms of bait, lures, rods and anything else that might be important.
Unfortunately the fish must have heard that I was on my way as 7 hours of fishing produced nothing. We went south to Cresswell and hit every possible ground on the way. We drifted, anchored, used muppets, daylights, bait, deep water shallow etc, etc.....the lot...... and not a sniff of anything.
We came north to the island and had the same results.....we were Sooooo!!!!dissapointed but as a consolation we had some sun and early on the sea was flat calm but came away later in the day.
I must be doing something wrong but I will keep trying and hope for better soon.........
Highlight of the day was a pod of dolphins or porpoises, not sure which, that surfaced just of the East side of Coquet Island. they were great to see but they werent very intersted in us.

Cheers for the report mate - 7 hours of not much sounds about right as it seems very few boats were catching yesterday

    Ooh a new vid!

Hi , I saw you filling up with diesel as I came back in yesterday , I'm fishing on ELEDA , also out of Amble , I fished the same marks with the only success coming down at Cresswell. I had a small codling and a scotchie and lost something off that was fighting hard but may have been something foul hooked. It still felt a bit cold to me , i must be getting old I think.
One of the charter boats was down at Creswell most of the time I was there too , so I'm guessing that must be the best place for a chance of a fish (plus Norman says they are there early on , that's good enough for me )
Thgere were quite a few boats out yesterday , one of the reivers stopped by me and said much the same thing , not a lot happening.
They will come , don't worry

Difficult day for everyone Saturday Ray, certainly no one doing anything wrong just the basics I think ie if there's no fish there then we dont catch. maybe next week, the tides not big the high it at 10,30am so its fishable up over in daylight (a lazy 6.00 am start I think) good luck .....

As already said no one catching i did about 7hrs with only 2 fish to show and been down mariner today, boats back in...same story from them all...just going to put a pot down under my boat and save the fuel

I wont be out for 2 weeks now, going to let the spawning fish return and the sea clean up abit i hope.

Still i bet it was nice to be out.

Thanks for your responses, it's reassuring to know that it wasn't something that I was doing wrong, simply not many fish about.
I'm sure it will pick up but even if it doesn't, on sunny days like saturday and Sunday it's simply a pleasure to be able to get out and do something different. cheers

It`s really strange ..... some days its all excitement and fill the boxes, others , like this weekend you just have to bite the bullet ....................

theres no secerets, just if your in the right place at the right time with a decent rig and bait then you`ll catch ....................

good luck all for next weekend ........

My lad was playing football this morning and i always take him and watch ,so you can imagine what was going through my mind whilst i watched him playing in blazing sunshine with not a breath of wind
I got home about 12.30 had a coffee and walked round the garden as the breeze was just getting strong enough to move the top branches on the trees, "stuff it " , I thought , I'm going for a couple of hours.
Put the gear in the car and was on the boat within half an hour , I didn't really want to go far so headed out behind the island , the breeze had got a bit stronger , but the sea was comfortable and after messing about there for an hour I set off for Cresswell , 15 minutes later I was fishing the skeres , it was lovely , the sun was blazing , the sea was flattening by the minute , and lo and behold one or two fish decided to feed.
They were only small codling about 2lb , like peas in a pod , I boated three and lost another couple off before the tide went slack and the ebb helped me on my way back to Amble.
It's still a tad cool out there when the sun hides and the breeze picks up , but what a fantastic afternoon I had messing about on the river...... errr sea
