A nice easy drive down to Hartlepool, with very little traffic for an early morning departure.
Famous, Wandering Star and ourselves in the Marina lock for just after 7am chomping at the bit to get at them.
A dull and overcast start to the day as we headed out with a very gentle North Easterly wind which gave the slightest of chop to the sea.
So off we went for the Fresh Mackerel to use as bait, they proved to be elusive today and we moved to 2 spots before we had enough.
There has been posts recently of very small Mackerel been caught and today I saw them with my own eyes, perfectly formed between 4 and 6 inches long.
While hunting the Mackerel, what also came along on daylights during this time were loads of fat coalfish and Horse Mackerel in numbers I've never seen before.
With the bait bucket stocked for later, off we went in search of our scaly friends.
I jigged away on my tried and trusted Sidewinder sand eel and over the day took all 8 Codling on the shad, then changing over to bait to land 5 Ling.
The best Ling tipping the scales at 19lb and a nice Cod of just under 10lb, both captured by the same angler.
The Mackerel played ball all day when bait began to run low, and they were picked up just about everywhere, with some really big fish being caught, well over 2lb.
A really nice Pollock came in later in the day weighing a respectable 9lb giving the angler a fight of a lifetime.
Big tide, little tide, I really don't think it matters that much, I just change my tactics to the conditions, and persevere, my catches go some way to prove it.
Overall another great day on a great boat and great Skipper, The fish tally for today, a very respectable 50/50 split of Cod and Ling with about 80 fish in total.
We didn't move around too much today, Dave had us on fish from the off, the weather played its part and the banter was, as usual, amusing to say the least.
5 booked trips left, the bigger fish moving in, I think there's time for a few PB to be broken yet.
Until the next time
