I was given the opportunity by one of the locals to go out for blue sharks. A free days boat fishing sounded pretty good to me so I jumped at the chance. We stopped off for fresh mackerel for bait and steamed out ten miles to start off a chum trail. About an hour into a very slow drift we spotted the first dorsal cutting through the water. It took the shallower bait on an 8lb bass boat rod and small torium loaded with 20lb braid. The reel screamed as it took off into the depths. This one was only a small one around 35lb but what a great fight on light tackle. At one point there were 2 of us fighting sharks simultaneously whilst 3 other sharks circled the boat.
We boated 7 to 75lb, 5 of them mine and the biggest!! A truly memorable days fishing, I'm hoping to get out again before coming home in October.
