Been out today with 2 friends.
We met at C.O.D. (Crack of Dawn) and intended wreck fishing
Headed to 4 mile mark, but water was after the big tides followed by a swell still a bit mucky and also another algae bloom seem to happen. No mackerels there!
Went to 7 1/2 --nothing
went to another few wrecks and still struggled. Picked up a couple of ling on another wreck and laboured our way from wreck to wreck.
The tides, wind, swell, drift were all over the place and very hard to fish. Lots of tackle left in the wreck.
The last 2 wrecks did deliver a bit better and a few more ling and cod came up, mainly because the drift eventually became a bit more predictable southbound.
Result was fair, but by recent standards not good. A few ling up to 8 1/2, cod up to 5lb and to complete the mix-grill, we had whiting, pollock, coalie and of course eventually mackerels.
I found the mackerels hard to get, which is very unusual for late July and only explainable by the mucky/green water.
And as we all say: A bad day of fishing is better than a good day in the office (that is where I am now ;-( )
