  • slinky kate catch report 15/6/08

so , with the comp cancelled but the weather not quite as bad as we expected (along with the knowledge bert and the lads done well yesterday) ... off we set at a holiday start time of 8.00am .... so late was this that I was up and at marina an hour early with plenty of time to get through the lock , fuel up and relax in the sunshine while I awaited the lads at 8.00 (Tony and Frank).
Of we set with all the traffic (charters by the many at this time of the morning).
Got to piers about bottom of tide so not too disturbed to find no fish at location (1).
Great day for boating today with a big swell and walls of water in front of the boat , although not worrying as it was very regular and containable (not that my back thinks so at this point in time).
It`s certainly a big swell when you loose sight of land when only at the St Marys yello can ....
Tried a few spots ang caught a few small returnable tommy codlings along with many many scotchies (or are they really sea bream i heard it say? ).
Big fish in kilts today so big that we think tony made a new PB in kilt fish fishing..........
As the day wore on and we tried and tried several spots hard ground and wrecks it became obvious that this was not a good catch day with only a couple of decent cod (and mackerel of course) to keep.
Still, Tony aired his new micro fine rod with a kilt for the first fish caught and smeared it deeply in mackerel scales so at least thats out the way now.

Not much in the way of pictures other than this of Tony`s new rods first fish .................

    better luck next week .................

It was still a great few hours out tho Norman...I always enjoy the trips (the catching fish part is just a bonus...honest, no really )...good craic as ever and also with Frank along for another trip

That's a really big Bream tho when you look at it ...even though it's wearing a kilt

By way of a review on the rod, I would say it's a belter...it looks really tippy but it can def hold it's own and it didn't protest at all during any of the major snags...just need to feel what it feels like with a nice fish on now (Keith christened his with a doubler - S'not fair)

I feel perhaps I was cursed by the Gods of the sea over my misdemeanour with a poor Seagull on friday night...I hope me feeding them the leftover squid on the trip back makes some small amends in that regard (hope it wasn't an Albatross or we're up **** creek )

Anyway, cheers as ever Norman - 'til the next time

Aye Keith, but form a boating not fishing point of view it was one of the best days out I`ve had for ages ............ an absolute fantastic big rolling sea coming up against walls like the title shot in the perfect storm, but not fearsome just like free rides at the fairground whoo hoooooooooo

Sounds like the sort of day I'm just as happy to miss out on I'm aching to get back out fishing , but the thought of big swells in my little boat turns me this colour lol. I'm looking into getting a bigger boat though and maybe a ginger plantation in the garden , some of those sticky things behind my ears, a wrist band with a knob strategically placed over a pressure point , some quells , sea legs , calms, and hypnosis and the jobs agoodun! ....... I'll be out there in that perfect storm ........not lol.
Well done on getting out and trying , I wonder where the fish go? Or are they still there but harder to catch? If we knew all the answers fishing wouldn't be fishing would it
