Headed out after two on friday as soon as there was enough water over the sill. Pointed staright North and stopped off at alnmouth drifting along the pot markers. We found the fishing to be very slow, I dropped two off and Mickey didn't have a bite! One of my mates was with us on his boat and he was having a better day with three cod and a ling as well as six good coalies. We deceided on a shift to chesimore which resulted in a small codling for mickey before we tried around the North end of coquet island. The fishing was much better and I ended up with four cod and a ling and mickey with another four cod, all good sizes between 3 and four pounds. We deceided to go off again early in the morning!
7th of June:
Headed out of the piers at 4:45 after a very early start to be greeted by mist and rain! Tried the North end of the island again as the fishing had been ok the night before. Straight into fish again first drop. I hooked into a fish and it felt ok before my rod doubled and line was stripped from the reel with the drag set really tight, mickey started the boat to follow it but my braid parted. I am fairly sure the culprit was a seal as there were a few of them around! After that the fish we hooked were brought up at warp speed! Tried a bit further South and had the best fishing so far this season with most drifts bringing between four or five cod.The fishing did die off when we ran out of bait. The cod were a bit smaller than friday so we put a fair few back but kept 12. You know you have had a good day when you are getting sick of filleting! A great day out with the weather getting steadily better all day! We tried a few places for mackeral but they weren't anywhere to be seen. Off again hopefully through the week.]
