It’s that time of year again, with enough daylight to let us out for a couple of hours fishing after work. I arrived at them marina shortly before 5 and waiting on the deck of my boat was a Slinky surprise – thanks Norman!
Fishing was slower than last week, with fewer and smaller coddling coming in from the rough ground; like all the other fish tonight, they went back. Silver lures were all the fish wanted.
Moving around the rough ground didn’t see any improvement in the catch rate so I hit the Easton wreck. This is one that I never normally fish as it usually has a boat over it by the time I’m out. This time the sea was quiet and first drift brought another coddling followed by the first scotchie.
Next drift was better, hooking into something that felt like a monster that took line from my spinning reel before surfacing 15 yards downstream of the boat. It was hooked with a green Slinky eels and had wrapped around the line to come in tail first which is why it felt so big. My best fish of the season so far, I’ll leave you to decide how big, for reference the eel is about 6~7 inches long. Thanks once again for the eels Norman and Tony, I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of them in the reports.
