  • Wor Las 10th May – Wow

Sometimes, only once in a very long while things just go right.

I didn’t plan on going out today, but you know how plans change. Gloss painting finished at home, I thought that I head to the boat and paint the woodwork there, but that changed driving along the sea front and looking at a flat, clear sea in late sunshine.

Unluckily, the usual crew were unavailable at short notice, sorry lads, I'll try and give you more warning next time I picked up a couple of bags of worms and by 16:30 was out the marina and heading for the rough ground.

Within seconds of the first drop the lure was back on the way to the surface with a coddling on. Fish after fish followed often two at a time. They were savaging lures, even taking the white popper in the pic below. It was like fishing for mackerel, drop after drop not reaching the bottom before fish hit. What fighting fit fish they were, three pound fish were at times taking line from my fixed spool on a spinning rod.
In two hours of fishing I landed well over 50 fish in the 2 to 3lb size with and several more up to 6lb; only keeping half a dozen plus a late one that was deeply hooked.

The icing on the cake was seeing a pod of dolphins chasing fish half a mile off Tynemouth pier. Gulls latched on to the fish and marked where the dolphins were, they were faster than my camera so the pics aren’t good.

Some days things just go right.

    Cheers everyone, see you out-there.

There’s a dolphin somewhere in front of the ship there, marked by the gulls

Cracking session.....always better when not planned!! I'm kicking myself now, did the same thing, me and the better half popped down to marina late afternoon....as soon as we got down thought we should be heading out but decided to have a go early tomorrow......obviously the wrong decision.

Well done......looking like a promising start to the season so far!

Great stuff Kev, aye its that time of year ....... a few weeks late but here at last, I reckon we got 2 to 3 weeks of this before we need to move a bit furthur out and start serious shad fishing ................

its great when it goes to plan ... well done mate .......

we had a seal very close to the boat today throwing around a codling then eventually showing us how to swallow a whole one ..... it stayed for ages and I'm sure waved a few times, after 5 or more minutes i picked up the video camera ............... and it vanished
