  • 2 Day review on Ali-Cat 18th & 19th April

18.4.2014 Day 1:- Arrived at Hartlepool Marina for a 7:30am start.
Left on a full boat into a lively sea with nice swells around 2-3mtrs.
As David Northeast stated on his post, the boats cope very well in these conditions and the forecast was to settle during the day which it did.
Fishing wasn't as good as last week, but fish still coming steadily over the rails throughout the day, again nothing massive (yet) but fish nonetheless .
Around 25-30 fish mainly Cod with the best fish pushing 8lb, lots of 3 & 4lb fish and lots more going back to grow.
A mixture of squid bait and shading for me took 5 nice coddling, best about 6ish, and again nobody going home empty handed, with the other lads mixing bait and shads alike.
Dave (skipper)as always working his socks off to the last to find the fish.
The weather really flattened off in the afternoon which made it more comfortable for the unfortunate sufferers of the dreaded seasickness, my heart really goes out to them, especially one lad who would not give up and was rewarded with fish, I congratulated him for sticking in and his reply was "I'm booking myself some more places". Nuff said.
The pesky Whiting's made themselves known, on the shad and bait, with a number of decent sized fish being caught.
Not the best fish to return even when lip hooked, the majority of them ending up as seagulls breakfast, unfortunately.
Met and had a chat with DavidNortheast and Ships Cat, who had fished on Famous, nice to catch up with you lads, hope to be on the same boat one day.

19.4.2014 Day2:- Same time start today and away into a much calmer sea, with the sun also threatening to make a warm time at sea.
Different day, different fishing, extremely slow today, first fish coming in on bait, and a nice Cod around 7lb, was this the start I wondered, unfortunately not, Dave had us all over in the pursuit of our gilled friends, certainly covered some ground today, even tried a couple of wrecks, which I took fish off, but only small codling.
Each mark we moved to produced fish, best fish of the day around 7lb, in total around 30 fish (codling) all nice sizes, lots of Gurnards' knocking around today on the shads, some of them just the same size of the shad, and of course the always present Whiting, again some decent sized fish if you wanted them, plus a solitary Ling around 7lb.
7 rods today all taking fish, I left with a decent bag of 8 codling, very hard going, but that's how it is with fishing.
The weather was perfect, discarded the waterproofs' and applied the sun cream it was that pleasant, and the forecast spot on, with the sea coming away as we had started to make our way in.
So overall, nothing at all to complain about, I've certainly had a lot worse, and I'm just chomping at the bit for the next trip.
    Until then lads, Tight Lines.
