The sunny weather encouraged a quick half day off today but out at sea conditions weren’t so kind this afternoon, with a stiff breeze putting a chop on the water that threw the boat around a lot. I didn’t see that in the forecasts.
Dropping the anchor just off St Mary’s lighthouse settled the boat into the wind leaving the deck sheltered and sunny so engine went off and the kettle and music went on. For the next four hours a slow but steady stream of coddling came over the sides, only small stuff between 8oz and 3lb. The water was a lot dirtier today than it was a couple of weeks back, not good for shads and slinky grubs. I fished one rod with lug and one with rag, all the fish except one took the lug and all but one went back.
I thought I had a bigger fish at one point, until a coddling came up tail first from the depths, fighting all the way. Fun while it lasted.
