Yesterday, Oli and I caught the afternoon tide from Amble, with the intention of fishing the slack tide, and the start of the flood tide out on some wrecks that we had not visited for many years. In hindsight, we should probably have gone out in the morning, judging from some of the reports from yesterday. We managed 8 wrecks, but found almost all of them devoid of fish, not even coalies or pout, and certainly no ling or cod. I even tried for haddock on a couple, but the same result.
A bit dejected, we came inshore, and fished around Hauxley. In an hour, Oli had around 20 decent codling, plus this nice pollack, and I had 15, plus some small pollack. Lots of mackerel inshore too. 2 codling were kept for the table, but the rest went back. Still, it was a warm day, fishing in shorts and t-shirt for once, with no rain and light winds, so no complaints overall.
