Thought we'd try a few more marks up near Boulmer. Water was still pretty dirty in colour, with that greenish hue. We took a handful of small codling up to about 2lb each, and figured we'd move on up to Craster where the water was certainly clearer. As usual we were the only boat around. There were more fish here, mostly codling with lots of super-fit coleys and an occasional pollack. After about an hour of this, and perhaps another half-dozen codling each, we decided to use the slackwater and head to some of the wrecks off here.
Typically the first wreck had a lobster pot on it, so we headed over to another, unchartered wreck that we had stumbled across last year, and what a good decision. The water was gin-clear down to about 20 feet, around 10.4 degrees temp. It was a fish on every drop, with most coming on the uptide part of the wreck. Oli's best fish we weighed was just shy of 6lb, and mine was 4.5lb, but loads of them, as well as coleys, pout and a bonus mackerel that we weighed in at a hefty 1.5lb. It was however the only mackerel of the day.
We then headed back south and stopped at several more wrecks on the way back to Amble. All had fish on them. It was a great day. Great fishing, great scenery and really hot calm weather. We kept a total of 4 out of around 60 codling, with a dozen or so coleys each, 3-4 pollack and 4-5 pout.
