  • Safety Bay, Western Australia 19/02/14

A complete other end of the spectrum for me this evening with a trip out on my mate Jacobs boat. We launched at the North end of Safety bay and what a launching facility it was with a great parking area for trailers, a jetty with good fendering to make fast to once launched and a concrete anti skid slipway. All for free as we'll.

We set off to be met with a slightly fresh south westernly but not too bad at all. The boat certainly shifted with a 115 on the back and it only being 17 foot long! It was hold on bloody tight!

First drop was on a wreck with a load of stuff showing onthe sounder but the drift speed was bonkers! After a short steam we dropped the pick next to a reef and we're straight into fish:

After a little move again it was more fish:

The next location again next to a reef was a bit deeper and Jacob landed a good flathead. We ended up catching flathead, trumpeter, whiting, tailor, bream, wrasse, pink snapper and yellowfin all to bottom fished squid or fish strip.
I enjoyed myself so much fishing for the new species even if most if them were small on light gear it was a right giggle.
We had one big hook up with Jacob hooking into a big snapper which lived up to its name and broke him off. Hopefully get another trip off sorted before next week.

My first snapper all be it a tiddler!

I will end up with another sunset one which was a belter!

Almost forgot, on arriving back at the ramp two fisheries officers were there to meet us and checked everything, catch, bait, licence, in all my years fishing on a boat in the north east this has never happened!

    Graham.

Graham, bet you never had to get any licence in the north east either!!

Just goes to show they are looking after the set up there, it does look at cracker of a launch site
