  • Slinky Kate Midweek Trip 12-9-07

Great weather abounds this week , LOL surprisingly in line with a weeks holiday

Out Wedenesday accompanied by Keith who luckily also found a days holiday to take

Flat sea almost all day with the sun showing up and remaining from about 10.30am ..... hence the now slightly beetroot colour ...

Started in the usual close in marks and fished heavy baits
--- keith scored a few cod, I scored a few put back sizes ---

Then done a few of the usual close in (3 mile) wrecks where
--- keith scored a few cod, I scored a few put back sizes ---

decided since it was such a good day that this was the perfect opportunity to go a little further than usual so headed out past the usual limit of the adastra and got to about 12 or 13 or maybe 14 mile.
Fished in about 250ft of water with a calm sea and a bright sun but to be honest it was nowhere near as good as the usual 150ft depths.
It`s a long way down with much less "feel" of the bottom (and the snags were just as bad).
It was so deep it was like reeling all the up, then reeling someone elses line all the way up as well. ..... oh and whats more there were no fish so we headed back to the more traditional wrecks.

Back in at about 8 mile we hit one wreck that was impossible to fish due to the amount of life (other than cod and ling) over it. Instant double header whiting and coalie and mackerel (or is that triple header ) just couldnt get through to the target species.
anyway here, --- keith scored a few cod, I scored a few put back sizes -- the whiting by the way were all well over a pound in size and would have been quite a haul if we`d decided to keep any.

Sun continued to shine and we moved back in wreck by wreck where ....
--- keith scored a few cod, I scored a few put back sizes ----

all in all a great day out in the sun with great company and although I didnt catch the most I think I ended up taking the most fillets home (and Keith got his favourite tipple for the table, a decent ling)

oddly enough there were many many small ling around I think we must have returned many more than 10 .........

Great Day as ever, cheers for the company keith .......

    Beats being at work Norman.

I was stuck in the office looking out the window as i do every day from May until Oct thinking of the pier or the boat.

Roller on 12 noon friday when i am off, the tide falls right for a spot of fishing.Thats the best thing about my company, you finish 12 noon every friday so it feels like a long weekend.

I do some weight lifting and i was surprised at just how much hard work there is with the boat fishing.
I had a few aches and pains were i don,t normally. In fact i was knackered when i went out for the first time.
