  • Slinky Kate - Ian Woods Boat Comp 9-9-07

    Where to start really?????

At the end seems a good place ….

A big congrats to the winner of the Ian Woods Open Boat comp …. Richie Roll (our very own Northeast1) with a superb ling of 28 lbd (although it was verified at time of catch to weigh 32 lbds.) fishing from Alan Skinners Sarah JFK.

    Well done rich

Ok then Slinky Kate catch report fishing the same comp …….
Crew for the day – Myself aided and abetted by Big Sixfootsteve and Tony Wallsendo …. (well that’s what the entry forms said)

C`mon lads take this comp. Seriously ………..

With the forecast good and a blistering week gone by all was set for a long day out on a flat sea in a burning sun with not a sign of wind or the feel of a swell, catching endless big cod and ling on the faraway wrecks.
Most important accessory of the day was to be the suntan crθme (especially in the case of tony)

Well ……. it didn`t work out exactly like that …….

Left Marina early after pre registering for the comp the day before to fish for bait and get to our preferred spot in time for the official comp start.
A bit of sun shone through and the sea was fairly flat but there was always a lazy swell.

Struck fairly early into a decent cod of 6lb 8oz which made us think the day was to be ours ….

Then soon after Steve hung into a 4.5lb codling

while all along Tony kept us supplied with fresh mackerel (not that he was trying to do it it just seemed to happen J …………) How many was it tony 36? Or was that 37 LOL

(no pictures of Tony here as we were awaiting his cod frenzie starting ...........)

Only the odd scotchie came aboard but we seemed to be plagued with small Ling and large whiting.

Soon after the sun had decided it was NOT coming out to play the wind decided it Definitely WAS going to blow thus when the tide turned at about 10.30am the conditions deteriorated by the minute with drifting the wrecks becoming more and more difficult.
Plugged away all afternoon but with nothing but many many whiting and several mackerel along with the now inevitable small ling.

One bonus catch (and a first for Slinky Kate) was this one for Steve (on a pirk) which he put back to grow bigger ……

All in all a difficult days fishing for us and a few others today with catches not as good as previous weeks, however my 6.5lb cod and Steves 4.5lb cod at least got us in the runners up prizes for the comp.

Some good ling were caught by a couple of boats today with several doublers and the superb 28lbd by Richie….
(well done again richie .... your on a roll what with all them mackerel as well )

Must say a word here for Ian Woods and his team, well done mate well organised, a great comp I hope we see it in years to come , thanks

All the best from The crew of Slinky Kate ……..

Cracking report Norman pleased you all enjoyed it. Only one question though is that a Scotchie in the third pic or is it really a Codling??

        Jim,
Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

sorry for not replying last night lads...went to bed at about 8pm...absoluteley shattered

Steve I'll post the pic of your tactics later mate

It was b****y hard work though eh? we chucked everything at 'em and they wouldn't go for it.....although I did have a Jaws moment that swung me fore and aft...lost it though (HEHE or is that just fishermans licence when it comes to a story? )

Even though I was bait boy with my 77 mackerel , I did catch 18 Whiting and 10 small Ling

Excellent day as ever, cheers again Norman, Steve

When o' when will the sea be flat?

Nice one lads, pleased to hear you's got into the prizes.

The skipper and crew of Slinky Kate must have been the best dressed, wine'd and dine'd fishermen out on Sunday thats for sure.

To prove Steve WASN'T targeting scotchies yesterday...

And here's a picture of how a crew of any self respecting boat should dress....
