Gread day out once again with special thanks to the crew of Steve and Jeff.

Left marina shortly after 6.00am and started out down river with a fair breeze following . . . . . . shame about jeff being a mackem supporter, the horror on his face as both steve and I unveiled black and white football shirts was memorable still it was just a joke so to save any more pain they were put away (until sunday LOL).

Stopped off at spot x on the way out but nothing but the usual scotchies and whiting (and of course mackerel) .............. steve scored once again with the first scotchie of the day . The sun was up and therefore not too cold but the wind was increasing by the minute.

Decided at low water to spend an hour or two on the 3 mile wrecks before the wind got any worse. What a good decision this turned out to be with fish now starting to show (eventually) on wrecks. We repeatedly dug into cod and ling (and a monster scotchie).
Jeff was fishing faithfully with shads but it looked at one point that more traditional lures were going to win the day like muppets and daylights until bang in came a cracking cod of around 6lb on a blue shad. Again jeff repeated this never using bait all day - well there ya go them shad things do work ! -------
Best of the day was a Ling of some 9lbd for Steve(maybe even 9.5lbd since difficult to weigh in the conditions). Looked for some time on the way up to be the elusive doubler ............but not quite , maybe next time steve.
Then came a great fish for myself stripping line as fast as I could reel in (must re-set that drag !) was convinced and said so at the time that it must be a doubler LOL only to find it was a cod of about 6.1/2lbs ... haha great sport though.

spent some time close in over rough ground when conditions were at their worst but all the action today was over wrecks, even though the drift lasted only about 45 seconds

All in all another excellent day with 6 or 7 cod and a couple of ling all good sized fish around the 6lbd plus mark.
Fish were evenly spread between all anglers today with no feast or famine between us
Back in about lunchtime due to worsening (windy) conditions.

    Steve`s 9lbd Ling ;-

Jeffs 6lbd+ cod (caught on a blue shad)

My 6lbd+cod (that fought like a doubler)

Great Day again lads ........................ cheers

Yeah...good day despite the sea state, (great conversation, (for black & whites), decent fishing and even a bottle of beer at 09:00hrs.....!!!)..........

Good photo's Norman. I can see them on my Laptop now for some reason. I've just realised our lass is being sarky when she says I look like Brad Pitt in the movie Troy......(Ha-Ha).

            Thanks again Norman.

cheers mick, yeah seemed to work out a good day, pleased to see there are now fish on the wrecks again ............

not sure if the reports show or describe it but the last two trips last week and this have been in real bad conditions, a bit warmer today although a big wind whereas last week was searing rain as well as an even bigger wind. Even though the wind was westerly it was brisk enough to churn up the water .......... two very uncomfortable trips, pain killers all around for the aches and pains afterwards

There were several times today when we had to steam half throttle or less (not my usual) because the prop was out the water so much.

Look forward to a calm sea (just for a change) .........
