  • whitby yesterday

there was only 3 of us aboard (luxury). me my mate and a mad jock from scotland.
we started off on a bit of ground about a mile off and started picking codling up straight away. we give it a couple of hours before moving onto a couple of wrecks where we picked up more codling and a few better ling .
best fish on boat was 12lb ling.
we had to call it a day at 12.30pm as the weather was deteriating and we struggled to hold bottom. a good morning though.
    i ended up with4 cod between 4 & 7lb and 3 ling between 6 & 9 . about another dozen or so codling went back under 4lb.
a very typical bag of fish whitby has been producing this year.
there seems to be loads of cod on the ground down there but not so many bigguns coming off the wrecks. plenty big ling though.

    cheers ,
    mick.

Cod must thrive off Whitby. Everytime i here someones been off here they always catch cod.
One of these days i,m going to book a trip from there.

davsut we were on the trot on .

mick , one of the main reasons i fish down whitby is because of the ease of getting a spot on a boat at short notice mainly during the week because of my shifts . normally 2-3 of us but the odd occasion on my jack.
the best thing to do is ring one of the main skippers at 7pm when they will all be sitting in the fleece having a pint so you can get passed on to whoever is going out and has spare places.
get yerself doon , the fishings great.

          cheers ,
          mick.

Cheers Mick. Just doing some calclations here mate. Its a long way from Consett but it must be about the same for you from Gateshead. I would have thought Shields was better for you.
There and again three guys were on the Maggie May last week with me and they were from Loughbrough.
Your right what you say about Whitby there is loads of boats advertised in this weeks Sea Angler.

            Cheers Mick.

mick , i can get down there in 1hr 15 mins with nice empty roads in the morning , i regularly make these type of journeys in the winter for what might only be a 4 hr sesh so its no hardship..
ive tried a few times to get the odd spots from the tyne but i seem to struggle and have bother making contact for some reason.

              cheers ,
              mick.
