  • Maggie May and Mick Dunn.

Guys as i type this the room i,m still going up and down.
Went to Hartlepool this morning on me tod and met up with John the skipper 8am.
I thought the sea looked fine on the drive in. John said it had picked up and we would give it a few couple and see how things progressed It did,nt sound promising.
There was eight of us on the boat including John.
Off we went round the Heugh and thats when i realised it was not like my last trip out on a boat when it was like a millpond.
Got about a mile out and dropped for mackeral after three stops further out hit a shoal and filled the box. About now i threw up. When my stomache was empty ok but slightest drink or out to eat and up it came. Went to first wreck and lost my first ever pirk. Nowt doing here so off we went to another wreck 30 mins away. One of the lads caught 12 lb ling on a mackeral head again not much really doing so we moved onto rough ground, we then caught nice coalies loads of little whities and the odd pollack.
Because there was no cod we kept trying different ground. I believe i was the only one to get a cod of about pound or two. Its mouth was full of little crabs.
Anyway we came in about 4 pm. Imust have went flying half a dozen times with the boat jumping about.
I did notice only one other lad bad and he went in the cab. I stuck it out and my being sick did not get in the way of my fishing.
All in all a good day. Most people must have stayed in as i did not see any other boats.
On a final note i later found out all the old hands who were not sick had took sea sickness tablets. Next time i go i,m going to down some.

    Mick.

PS IF THE MODS MOVE THIS TO CATCH REPORTS I UNDERSTAND AS THIS IS THE CORRECT PLACE.

Nice Report Mick, honest to the day ..... thats what it`s all about , and well done for sticking it out. Sometimes its rough and sometimes not you just have to take your chance .... but it`s always worth it in the end, even if you dont dig into something big at least you tried...... but on the day that you do hit the jackpot (and theres many times you will), whooo hoooo "Whoop Ya F**ker" . . . . . . . . .

There you go Mick, bad luck with the sea sickness mate. Only had it once and wouldn't wish it on anyone. As far as the flying about bit goes, it's not easy staying up when you are feeling really rough.

Hope you have a great day the next time.

      Jim.

Just looked on the internet seasickness. Its to do with the balance in your eardums etc etc. The worst thing you can do is go inside and look at solid objects like cupboards and walls which are fixed. The best thing is to stay out look at the land and get fresh air. I had plenty of this and plenty of sea water in my face of the spray. I can say it did not spoil my fishing one bit. At £27 i was not going to let it. I fancy another trip out soon. Probably try one of the boats at Amble when we go for our weeks holiday to Seahouses in 4 weeks time. Just in time for the red hot weather.

I will get some seasickness tablets and give them a whirl.

Got to catch a bigger fish than a 7lb cod which i got when i was a lad. I,m determined.

My mate at work who is ex royal navy (submarines oops watch your back) said i should try strawberry sandwiches . they don,t stop you being sick but they taste nice coming back up.

PS i once went to a report of an UXB in Tantobie with my mate Richie (who is the lad out of the navy). Bomb disposal turned up and i happened to mention to the sarge and his mate who were in full camo fatigues my mate was ex royal navy.
What did the swines do ran to the nearest walls and put there backs to it.
