We decided to have a short trip out Saturday and set out from Sunderland Marina around 09:30. Going between the piers there seemed to be a bit of a lump on and discussion was had as to which way we would go. We decided to go North and try a few wrecks inside.
It was hard going at first as we were drifting quickly with the tide and a w/nw wind. A few mackerel and that was all to show for a couple of hours.
The wind dropped and turned more westerly so we decided to hit a few wrecks further out. A few fish to six pound were landed and a decent Pollack of five pound.
On the way back in we dropped on a wreck for a few drifts. A couple of small codling around the three pound mark came to the boat. Then the biggie.
Arron thought he had hit into the wreck and was stuck at first but then the rod started to nod and he knew he was into something big.
After a good fight the fish was landed and estimated around the twenty pound mark. We weighed the fish back on dry land 18.8 our best so far.
Well done Arron hope to get some more of the same this season but could do with a bit flatter sea.
