Had a great day fishing from On Yer Marks Too out of Drumore. It was my first West Coast boat trip and eagerly anticipated for some 7 months.
We set out at three in the morning and attempted to break the land speed record on the way up on the empty roads. We weren't far off and managed to arrive 2.5hrs early for the trip...!!! After mulling around Drumore and asking the locals if they were enjoying the World Cup, (Ha-Ha) we boarded the boat from the beach in anticipation of some good Pollock fishing. We weren't let down.
Using a 9gm spinning rod, float and mackie strip, (Specially cut by the skipper) two of us ended up with at least 40 Pollock, (lost count)to 7.75lbs....the double eluded us this time. In terms of sport it was fantastic on the extreemly light gear we were using. We each lost a big fish to the rocks / kelp which simply couldn't be controlled with the gear we had on. Fun all the same though.
In the afternoon we fished for Tope. I blanked but my mate managed to land a male of 30lbs. Sorry for the photo. Seem to have missed it. I haven't told my mate yet and it's his first landed Tope.
The fishing up there was both exciting and educational. It's a long time since I learned so much in one day. The skipper Malcolm was outstanding and always on hand to offer advice.
I also ended up with my first Dogfish and Red Codling.
The whole thing was totally different to Cod fishing in the North Sea and made a great change.
If anyone is considering fishing on Ian Burretts boats up there I'd say...don't hesitate, book it now...!!!
I've just booked another trip for Monday 11th Sepember.
Cheers,
Jeff.
PS also fished with Bert and Keith on Sunday aboard "Shady"and had another cracking day with some decent fishing and great crack. Just waiting for Keith to sober up and post a catch report.

Well done Jeff.
It maybe better fishing over there but I bet the sandwiches weren't a scratch compared to Daves.

Well done Jeff.
Its excellent fishing over there. It was september last year when I first went over and we had some cracking fish as its the larger females that remain. You can not beat the sound of the first run of a tope and all so different to fishing off our coastline.
With regard to the photo..its identical to my first tope pic
