South Shields Boat Angling Club fished their second competition
of the year on Sunday, the Thomas Victor Elsy Memorial Cup, and everyone
had a brilliant day's fishing.
All anglers caught fish, with a total of 185 lb of fish weighed in,
consisting of mainly 2-3 lb cod.
Anglers onboard Keith Scott's boat, the Karm, Stephen brown , keith scott and wrey parker weighed in a total of
116 lb, all from inshore wrecks off the mouth of the Tyne.
Junior member Stephen Brown won the Tommy Elsy Cup with a catch of 46
lb -02 oz; and his father Geoff won the heaviest fish pool with a cod of
6 lb - 04 oz.
Cod were caught in all areas from St Marys Island down to Marsden,
including offshore wrecks.
Boats at the "yellow can" found it was more productive to drift fish
rather than anchor up.
The majority of the fish were caught using hooks tipped with mackerel
