Well, what a surprise today ...........
got a text off bert early doors askin if I was out today (LOL was still in bed) so answered nah but maybe I should have been looking at weather outside.
Then after rubbin me eyes and takin a good look at the sunshine and the trees not loosing a single leaf due to the still air I decided it was time for a change to the plan for today so, without further ado I was in billy`s shopping for bait then steamin through the lock for about 9.30am , a little late sure but better than going xmas shopping with the family (come to think of it there`s a million and one things better than that )
After a quick call to others I decided that wrecking was probably not producing best results so headed for hard ground.
Great Sea, today slow roll with just a broken surface due to the growing south wind.
Got to my target spot, dropped down with baited Royd`s and "Bang" straight in, not the biggest of fish but with a fight like a mackerel.
Fishing with three hooks bottom rag and squid, middle rag and top squid, time and time again caught little tommy codling about 6 to 10 inches long, (all on the bottom hook) all returned safely (one with a hook from another angler deep in it`s mouth and 2 foot of trace tied to it so returned with a trimmed trace LOL)
Quite a lot of drift as the tide was still going out and the wind and tide were working together blowing towards the North. It eased off at about 12 ish as the tide began to work in the opposite direction.
Catch rate increased about an hour into the flood for an hour or so but still most were undersized and returned, however I did end up with six good coding to 3lbd all pan size and good clean fillets.
Great day out with many fish caught and most returned.
Just a note here they dont need to be big to be good fishing, the fish in this particular area fight like duck LOL
also dug into what I thought was the biggest of the day today only to find it was a hard fighting Wrasse and a big one at that.
Well , it beats shopping

Sounds like a canny day mate.......have you tried getting in really close in to St. Mary's yet...?
I had to do stock check today so I couldn't get out. The Volante was out though and I'll post the catch when I speak to Davey...

Well we finally got some "midweek" weekend weather, just Bert and me this morning (Scull must of been recovering from sorting attempted taxi fair dodgers - poor lads, doubt they'll do that again!). Bert steamed us straight out 3 mile where the chickens were jumping on everything from pirks to unbaited hokkais, bagged a few for ling bait and headed even further out. Naff all on the wrecks, except a coalie Bert got on a pirk, so we headed back in to the yellow can, not much there either only managed two codlings. Still, great to get out fishing in fine weather and I went home with a couple of fish and a couple of lobbies THANKS Bert!
Sure we saw volante off the can about 11.30am

Good one Norman
We headed down to the pool this morning hopeing to get out. But I discovered a bit of fuel dripping out of the outboard when it was running and found a little pipe was split and spitting petrol all over under the hood, so a no-goer for me.
Better to find out at the mooring than out a sea tho.
