  • Whitby-what a lovely day for a cruise!

Absolutely beautiful day again today, 20 plus degrees and such a wonderful day for a pleasure cruise out of Whitby.

    Thank goodness we didn't pay £50 for a day's fishing!........................Oh wait a minute...

Ok a day out on Mistress with our pal Rich at the helm, a full boat but very few fish! He tried so hard as he always does and looked after Lynn and I very well. Cod and Ling came to the boat at about 3lbs to 5lbs. No photos of the fish, as it was a bit chaotic on the boat and my camera batteries packed up!

The most exciting parts of the day was my friend texting me with the tennis score!

Lynn and I settled on a draw for the day as the fishing was so poor.

Still Andy Murray won Wimbledon, so a good day all round!
2016 - Cod, Dab, Dogfish, Gurnard, Ling, Mackerel, Saithe, Scorpian fish. .

We had a few! Most charter boats of that size are licensed for 12, Rich is popular so he gets full, fair enough, we had enough room up at the wheelhouse.

Out with Avante on Wednesday, which is limited to 8 people.

          You pay extra though.

It was a great day to be at sea...well great three days and for a change the fishing from the Tyne seems to have been much better than Whitby.

Still a nice day you will of had, boat did look way too full but good to see business booming still as by all accounts from Pool to Amble has been abit slow of late.

The Whitby boats are much better in marketing themselves. Glorious catch reports and fish held for photos 10 cm before the lens on stretched arms.

I personally think the waters of Tyne and Wear are as good if not better, but unknown, because hardly tried.

Look at Sunderland. There is only one charterboat which goes offshore and if you see his catch reports, it reads better than any Whitby ones.

Look at Tyneside: The private boat owner (and especially you) comfortably outfish Whitby and possibly would have won the summer competion on all accounts !

Kayos and Lynn have been on three different Whitby boats at ideal time, tides and weather and so far have a handful of fish for an accummulated charter fee of ~300£

Guy in the yellow oilskin is the skipper! No skipper (especially at the festival) would overload his boat!!

Listen mate, we has a few tangles, nothing major, mainly because the 2 guys next to us were fishing too light. We got on first and set up next to the wheelhouse so that we only had anglers to our left. We knew it was full, but wanted to go out with Rich, so we did. He is a popular skipper for a reason.

Our other 3 boats have plenty of room, so one full boat is no issue whatsoever. If you go out on Shy Torque or Sea Otter, they will be full almost every day of the festival. We do our research and book accordingly - helpful Skipper, loo, space, fishing, in that order. If we were only after the fish it would be Shy Torque and Sea Otter, going by the general consensus, but we would be on a full boat every day with no loo and little space - not for us.

the vessel is allowed to carry 14 people all are allowed to fish.that 14 includes skipper and crewman.(except in comp skipper aint allowed to enter)

the boat looks as tidy as a ragmans back yard.5 mins spent putting unwanted stuff in wheelhoose would have made the whole thing a lot better

Well I can only count ten!? The leg on the right of the photo is Lynn! As Duncan says 14 people max, fishing or just dangling a line over the side in a futile attempt to catch!

If all that gear went in the wheelhouse Duncan, there would have been no room for Lynn and I to go in and have a natter!

We have been out of Amble, Sunderland, Shields and Hartlepool over the last 3 odd years. This year Lynn fancied a week at Whitby for a change. Personally I think she reckoned she could win the ladies section! Ha she is only third!

One more trip, Avante restricted to 8 anglers. Half a dozen Cod that day for me and I will go home more than happy.
