due to tidal restrictions a daft o clock start 06 30 was required
10 regulars from durham newcastle ashington piled aboard at the quay wall as the steps normally used are being worked upon.also in attendance was crewman no.2,who kindly brought a new set of all/singing and dancing scales for weighing fish
arrival at the first mark saw the most uncomfortable of situations due to the wind being more in the south than was forecast shallow water and a tackle hungry bottom didnt help but there were fish not big the usual pan size of which so many folks talk of latelyas it happens the heaviest fish of the day came from here too
any hoo after a while being tossed from hell to breakfastime the fishing slowed down
what to do a move further from port didnt seem the brightest of ideas but as they say FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BOLD and about 3 mile later it certainly did
first drift and 20 mins of cod chaos 2 and 3 at a time they came over the side taking anything you chucked down to em
all fish of a similar stamp to the first lotthank goodness after that things slowed down to summat a bit more manageable.
must mention that for every fish kept at least two were put back, many of those decent legal plus sized fish.
with clear water i thought my preferred way of fishing(RIPPER)would work but it was the only flipping thing that didnt by this time wind had shifted to the west a touch sea flattened off and the whole show was so much more bearable.
now for the weighing of the fishuse these sez he(no2)
hmm yes keith, you will be pleased to know your fish weighs 12 degrees celcius
re calibration and a check on other scales showed it was in fact 7lb 3oz
and so it was time for home, but a happy band busy with their filleting knives,
