I left Royal Quays at 7am and picked up my mate from the Fish Quay. There was not a breath of wind so we decided to head North and fish the ground off Cresswell. We were into fish from the first drop but by mid morning the wind freshened from the South East and it became very uncomfortable. We were fishing with prawn and some of last seasons frozen Mackerel which the Cod seemed to appreciate. All fish "lip hooked" were returned and we had about 15 keepers before the wind increased to the extent that we could no longer fish.
The journey back was an ordeal with every wave slamming the boat and visibility virtually zero as the wipers struggled to cope with the spray. Given the frequency of bites, I reckon today could have been our best day this year if the wind had just dropped off slightly.
