Bert, Stephen (& his crab), Jim and myself this morning, out the piers for about 5.30am. First stop an inshore wreck and Stephen landed a fine scrapping codling first drop to the killer crab so we all thought woohoo!! here we go. Jim landed another on the next drift but sadly the only thing landed on that wreck after that was a fine box full of Slinky Shads, Thanks mate . We'll keep them till the water clears up a bit, well, a lot.

We headed further out and tried several wrecks with crab, squid, pirks, shads etc. with little joy, Jim did pick another couple up including the biggest of the day about 5lb.

With things slow we headed back inshore with the dwindling crab bait and the fish were in much better fettle going daft for the crab, well for some people , the lads were pulling in codlings in almost every drift and I was loosing plenty gear. With the bait situation reduced to scrapping about for crabs legs we called it a day about 11am, but not before I was badgered in to dropping down Jim's rig, baited by Stephen to save my blank .
With a shout of "What's gan on here" I reeled in a nice 12lb cod, that turned out to only be 2lb but it felt good.

We ended up with 15 codlings, I think if we'd been out for 4am we'd of filled the boat, isn't that right Jim?

    Thanks as ever Bert
    Cheers, Keith.

Nice report Keith, yeah seem to be all still on the hard ground.

I did get one decent cod of 9.5lb from the wrecks today (would of loved to call it a 10 but scales were wandering betweebn 9 and 10 in the lumpy sea)

a few more weeks I think before the wrecks are buzzing

on a good note the birds were going wild in the confines of the marina when I came in just past the high tide, must have been barrel loads of sprat as every dive produced a sprat in the beak ...

Nice one Keith, it’s good to read that better numbers of fish are coming in at last.

Norman, 9.5lb must put you well up the board for this month’s comp. Was it the deadly SK shads, will we have to wait for next instalment of the cabin boy’s report ?
